There have been good reports of steelhead being caught. The river has been dropping steadily for a few days, and is currently running at 1770 c.f.s. Water clarity has been improving, and is currently around 2-3 feet, which is plenty for winter fishing. Fishermen are focusing on the usual winter spots from Boggan's Oasis up to Cottonwood Creek. Regulations in effect allow for retaining up to two hatchery steelhead, barbless hooks and bait is allowed. Un-clipped native steelhead must be released. Now is a good time to consider a float from Cougar Creek boat launch down to the highway bridge at Boggan's Oasis. The river is ice-free, and most of the lower-elevation snow has melted, so we are expecting good fishing conditions for the foreseeable future. Highway road conditions, up in Anatone and on the Rattlesnake (WA) and Buford (OR) Grades are good as well.
